3 Reasons to choose a pet photographer for your family photos this fall

Central Florida Dog Photography_MariaI often get asked if, as a dog photographer, I allow family members to be included in the photo shoot. The answer to that is a resounding YES! We know how much we all love our 4-legged friends but I would be doing you a complete disservice if I said “no humans allowed!”

I want you to be in the photos and your adorable kiddos and that amazing significant other and grandpa and….well whoever makes your family, YOUR family!!

Now that Fall is here and the temperatures are slowly creeping out of the 90’s (wowza, was this past summer hot or what?!), you’re starting to think about your family photos and holiday cards and gifts for loved ones. Here are 3 great reasons as to why you should choose a pet photographer for your family photos this fall.

1) Your pet IS part of your family!

Maybe it’s just you and your dog. Or maybe it’s you and your significant other and your 3 dogs. Or maybe it’s you and your mom and a house full of rescues. Or maybe you have 6 kids and one furry friend for each kiddo. Whatever your family is made up of, your pet is an integral part of your family and you know a family photo wouldn’t be the same without him or her (or them!) there. A pet photographer will know how best to capture your family, dogs included!

2) There is less worry when your photographer is comfortable around your animals.

I’m going to let you in on a secret….not everyone is a dog person. *gasp*!!! I know what you’re thinking, this can’t possibly be true! Sadly, not every photographer out there is going to be cool with your canine covering their gear with wet noses and sloppy kisses or will appreciate their black pants turning golden when covered in fur. A pet photographer, on the other hand, knows to bring a lint roller and a towel for wiping drool and a handful of treats to keep your kiddos occupied…both the 4-legged and 2-legged kind. 😉

3) Your pet deserves it!

Your dog may be an Instagram sensation or the star of his own YouTube channel, but more than likely, he’s just a bed-hogging, food-stealing, snuggler whose tail wags a mile a minute at the sight of you. Whoever your dog is, he deserves to have his 15 minutes of fame and the photographs to prove it. Day in and day out, his sole purpose in life is to bring joy to yours. Take this time to embrace his place in your family and capture these moments that are all too fleeting. Whether he was just welcomed into your home or is nearing his time to cross the Rainbow Bridge, or just cruising along, loving life, now is the time.

So this fall, when family photos are on your mind, consider choosing a photographer that wants everyone included…especially the little slobbery, rambunctious, balls of energy…and the dogs too.

Chocolate lab visits Tiger Bay State Park, Daytona Beach

Central Florida Dog Photographer_2

Meet Holea.

Holea is a chocolate Labrador retriever and, as most labs are, was very treat motivated for our session! I meet Holea’s mom out in a lovely woodsy area called Tiger Bay State Park in Daytona Beach, FL.  I knew the brown and green tones of the forest would compliment this lab’s coloring nicely as well as give her some area to explore.

Our adventures brought us to this pier that led out to a cozy spot to enjoy looking out at the lake. Look how cute she is balancing a treat on her nose!! She was so patient but as soon as mom said go, the treat was gone in a flash. Labs LOVE their treats! chocolate lab motivated by treats in daytona beach

I am always happy when clients agree to jump in for a photo or two with their dogs. It’s not always something they plan to do but it’s something I feel is important. I know selfies are such a thing right now but it’s also nice to have that one photo where you can just simply be with your dog and let someone else take it! These two are so great together!

Sometimes you take a photo and when  you see it on the back of the camera, you just know it’s going to be “the one”. I have no idea what Holea was thinking here and if she was wanting to actually consume this leaf or just take a little taste, but mom and I both thought this was hilarious. It’s like a little kid that was just caught in the act of being naughty! Silly girl!

Thank you for stopping by to check out Holea’s photo shoot! If you like what you have seen and are thinking of having your own session, give me a call and let’s chat. I hope you have enjoyed these images! Feel free to leave some love for Holea and her mom in the comments.

Shelties and their family | Altamonte Springs community park

Central Florida Dog photography

Meet Huck (Huckleberry Finn), Charlie (Charlie Brown) and Zach.

Even though I’m a dog photographer, I find great joy in being a part of family photos. I love hearing the stories and seeing the connections among family members…both the 2-legged and 4-legged ones. In this family, Huck and Charlie have two human brothers who not only share the same initials but the first two letters of their name. I prefer not to share human names in my stories for privacy sake so I will call them C and H.

So I met Mom, Dad, Charlie & C, Huck & H and learned they live just around the corner from the boys’ grandpa. They take daily walks back and forth to each other’s homes and the boys get to spend a lot of time with their grandpa which is awesome. Did I mention Grandpa has a sheltie too? Yup, his dog is Zach and is brothers with Charlie Brown. How fun is that?

We started our session at Grandpa’s house since it was just a short walk away. I loved this shot of all the family together. When I was chatting with Mom about why she wanted these photos done, she told me about her own mother and how important family photos were to her. I am sure she is smiling down from above seeing the family taking photos together they will cherish for generations to come.

Just down the road and another short walk away was this really beautiful park with tons of activities for families and sat adjacent to a lake. This provided lots of different backdrops and allowed the grown ups a chance to relive their youth a bit!

Along with capturing the family moments, I found it equally important to photograph the brothers together because these years go by so very quickly. C looks up to H so much. These are the photos that you look back on with love and joy to remember the times when life was simple and care free and as long as your big brother was by your side, you could take on anything. These two boys have a bright future ahead and I hope they will always lean on each other as they grow.

When I get the chance to meet with families ahead of time, before our session, we often times are working together to create works of art that are meaningful and purposeful. The photo below was a recreation of a photo they had in their home from when H was younger. There is no greater bond than a boy and his dog. And that’s what I love about this family…family is what is most important and there is so much love in each relationship. Everyone has a friend when they need one.

It warms my heart when I meet a family that puts family first and recognizes the value in having these moments photographed and displayed. While these children feel the love around them daily, having photos on their wall reiterates the importance of these relationships and demonstrates to them that family (the furry members too) is what matters most!!

Families come in all sizes and from all different backgrounds…I’d love to hear what makes your family amazing and special. Contact me today and let’s plan a session that tells YOUR story!

And of course, comment below with your own family stories or just simply share the love with these beautiful people!

Family session on Dog Beach at Ponce Inlet

Central Florida Dog Photography

Meet King, Junior, Mylie, and Curare.

I always love it when my clients have a location idea for their session that is both somewhere I have never been before and is a place where their dogs are comfortable and happy. Allowing the dogs to be able to run free and enjoy themselves really helps in ensuring we’re able to get some amazing shots. Couple that with a sunrise session and well, the images speak for themselves! This session was for a family of 4 dogs and their parents. Dogs aren’t always allowed on beaches but this quiet little spot in Ponce Inlet is called Dog Beach and the dogs absolutely love it! It’s a bit down the path from the parking area but opens up to a relatively secluded location to give the dogs a place to roam and enjoy a swim.

This furry foursome definitely had a blast today. It was a very, very, very windy day but that didn’t stop these pups! Here’s a family shot (minus one member who had to take a few moments to himself for a puppy time outfamily at dog beachSometimes the younger pups need a time out from the pack to think about their behavior. His one ear up just cracks me up!

pit bull on beachMy favorite moments from a beach session like this is watching the dogs just enjoy the water and try to figure things out. It was a little chilly for a swim but since dogs don’t bother with the weather reports, they found themselves both in and out of the water as the morning went on. When they weren’t jumping in and out of the tide, they were chasing each other around or just simply taking a stroll with their mom or dad. It was such a gorgeous morning and the sunrise was breathtaking.

This is King. He’s a great jumper! (what dog isn’t when treats are involved?!)

This sweet face belongs to Junior. He was a little bit on the grumpy side the morning of our shoot so he got a lot of images on his own. But look how photogenic he is! Love the markings on this pup…so handsome!

This sweet girl is Curare. She had never been to dog beach before and was a bit nervous. But, once she realized there was nothing to worry about, she took off toward the water for a quick dip!

And then there’s this girl, Mylie! Look at those ears!! She also very much enjoyed the beach and running with her sister, Curare.

I hope you enjoyed these images from Dog Beach! If you would like a session here, be sure to reach out. We had such a fun time and of course, watching the sunrise and the dogs play made it such a memorable experience.

Five dogs and their family on Daytona Beach

Central Florida Dog Photography3

Every time I share this image, people gasp and say “how did you get 5 dogs to sit still and look at the camera all at once?!” I wish I could take all the credit for this but it’s all a testament to their owners with how well behaved they are. They simply lined them up, told them to stay and lo and behold…they did it! I absolutely loved this session and being able to hang out with this crew and their family both on the beach and then at their home. I know sometimes dogs are not allowed on the beach but we did this early in the morning and we on and off fairly quickly.

Once we captured a few shots on the beach, we headed back to their house where we found some great spots for pictures of the dogs individually as well as together. All of these dogs have found their way into the hearts of this family through one various rescue or another and it was so evident they are loved and completely enjoy their companions!
