5 dogs, 1 amazing family | Windermere, FL

Central Florida Dog Photography_Maria

Meet Tebow, Spirit, Rocky, Oliver, and Sophie.

Have I said before how much I absolutely love my job and that I am so grateful for getting the opportunity to meet families such as this? Well, if not, I do, I love my job. I love meeting the people, the dogs, the families as a whole, and learning their stories…how they came to know one another. As you can tell by the photo, this family has chosen to share with their lives with 5 dogs, all adopted/rescued and welcomed with open arms. A few were chosen directly while a couple others were the result of “foster failures”, as mom likes to put it. Before I begin, I wanted to share with you what mom sent to me when I asked about her pack.

“So we have Rocky who is 14 years old. We adopted him when we first got married from the Houston SPCA. His original pack Lexie (a Golden) and Sparky (Lab/Dalmatian) passed away 4 years ago. He has never really been the same since Lexie passed.  Neither was I, which is why I’m so grateful to have found my calling, rescue, right around this time. So I quickly adopted Sophie from OCAS (pit/rotty/doberman mix)… Sophie is wonderful, loves everyone just barks a lot. She is my pseudo alpha…I’m the real alpha :). Then came Spirit (Golden Chow mix) who was found as a stray by my daughter’s teacher. We took him in 4 years ago. Spirit has the best temperament in the world…loves all dogs and everyone. We named him Spirit for having such a free spirit. I swear he embodies God in a way. Then came Tebow (my favorite, but they don’t know that). We rescued his mom from euthanasia. She was pregnant with 8 pups, Tebow being one of them. It was love at first sight…and the rest is history. He is my largest, weighing 105lbs. His mom was Australian cattle mix and the dad was an American Bulldog. Tebow looks scary, but doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. He’s super gentle and loves everyone and everything. Lastly, is Ollie or Oliver (my little man). Oliver came from a rural shelter up in Chipley, Fl. He was a foster that just seemed to stick. My 2nd foster failure (Tebow was the 1st). Oliver just blended so well with the pack, it was like he wasn’t even there, so we fell in love and kept him. We are not really sure how old he is or what he is. He looks like a bulldog, but I’m not really sure. So there you have it, one girl and four boys. Rocky is 14, Sophie and Spirit are 4, Tebow is 3, Oliver is probably 6ish. Sorry so long. I can go on and on about them :)”

The way mom described her pack was what really drew me in. These dogs are so fortunate to have found such an amazing mom and such a welcoming, loving family. There are bonds between them all, no doubt, but the relationship between Rocky and J (the oldest child) is real. J is 20 and has had Rocky in his life since he was 6 years old. Mom described their relationship as from the movie “My Dog Skip”. Needless to say, they were inseparable. Which is why it was so important that we schedule their session when J was home from college. I am so glad we were able to get some photographs of the two of them together because sadly, Rocky crossed the rainbow bridge a few weeks after our session.

This family embodies what it means to be selfless and caring. They have shown me what it means to love unconditionally and I know my life is better for just having met them.

Chihuahua / Jack Russell rescue pup | Lake Eola Park – Orlando, FL

Central Florida dog photography_Snickers

Meet Snickers.

Here is Snickers, a 2 year old chihuahua / jack russell mix! This lucky boy was adopted by my good friend Kathie and he is such a lucky pup! How handsome is he? And just look at those EARS!

For our session, we enjoyed a nice stroll around Lake Eola and Snickers loved chasing…and then being chased by…the ducks and the swans – some being bigger than he!

I know he will spend the rest of his life full of love, joy, and companionship and I am so happy they found one another. Enjoy your new furry friend Kathie!!

Rottweiler puppy in Orlando, FL | Lake Nona

Central Florida Dog photography

Meet Max.

Max is an 80 pound, 8 month old Rottweiler puppy. Other than his size, he is definitely very much of a puppy! His heart is as big as his bark though and when he wasn’t running around chasing tennis balls, he was licking and slobbering on your face.

As a puppy, he is still working on his sit-stay and I was able to grab a few headshots of his handsome face.

I often like to start our sessions at the client’s home as a way to make the dog feel comfortable and allow us to get to know each other. After we spent time in the yard, we took a walk around the neighborhood and made our way over to the dog park to let Max off his leash to run around.

The best part of the evening was watching Max charge after a tennis ball. Seeing as though we were friends now, I decided I would take this opportunity to get some shots on the ground while Max’s dad threw the ball my way. Nothing gets the heart racing and adrenaline pumping like an 80 pound “puppy” running straight at you!

We let Max run and run until he tuckered himself out. As the sun set, we wrapped up with a few more shots and some belly rubs for Max. I know the next time I see him, he’ll be all grown up but I’m sure he’ll still love chasing after that ball!

Max is glad you checked out his photos and took a small glimpse into his world. Do you have a big ole puppy who is ready for his headshots? Give me a call today. Oh, and if you have a story to share with Max about your own Rottie pup or just want to say hi, be sure to comment below.

Axis the Dachshund | {Waterford Lakes} Orlando, FL

Orlando_Waterford Lakes_Dachshund_8Small but mighty… meet Axis. He’s a dachshund with spunk. Our session took place at the walking trail in Waterford Lakes. It was a challenge getting the little guy to focus on us when there were bicycle riders, joggers, and walkers not to mention the ducks, the squirrels, and other furry friends to steal his attention away.

Orlando_Waterford Lakes_Dachshund_5We took a break to catch our breath on the little wooden bridge. Axis was a trooper and enjoyed the stroll.

Senior girl and her rescue dog | Clermont, FL

central florida dog photography_piperMeet Piper.

Everyone that contacts me has a reason why, in that moment, they want to have photos taken of their dog(s) and/or themselves. Sometimes it’s for holiday cards or because they got a new puppy. Sometimes it’s simply because they know cool art work of their dog and other times, it’s because  a pup has fallen ill and they don’t have much time. But this time….it was a celebration. As soon as I read her email, I couldn’t wait to meet her (let’s call her N) and Piper.

N is a high school senior, class of 2015. She has so much to celebrate and be proud of! Yet she had something she felt was even more exciting and the reason for reaching out to me. She told me about Piper, her Aussie mix dog and how they were celebrating 5 years of being together! Piper was a rescue and N and her share such a special bond that N wanted her senior photos to be with her best pal. How cool is that?!

We decided on a sunrise shoot once they told me about the land they had for us to work with. I was very excited as sunrise is my absolute favorite time of day to shoot! It’s always tough to get up so early but it is always, always worth it! The shots above were taken on the family dock at sunrise. The family tells me they spend a lot of mornings out there looking out over the lake. It was so peaceful and so serene.

N then showed me around a bit and wanted to show me how Piper enjoyed the agility equipment. After some introspective time at the lake, Piper was ready to burn off some energy! Lucky for her, she has lots of space to run and play.

The rest of the session was seamless and I felt as though I could photograph this family all day. They were so warm and welcoming and I truly enjoyed hanging out with them and listening to N’s mom tell stories about their home and their extended family. We even spent some time with N’s brother and his dog Chewy.

I left this session with a smile on my face and joy in my heart for having met this sweet family. I am glad for Piper that N’s heart was open to rescuing her. Thank you to N and your family for allowing me to hang with you on a beautiful fall morning. Your love for one another and the animals you care for is heartwarming and inspiring.
